“Procrastination is the most common manifestation of Resistance because it’s the easiest to rationalize.” – Steven Pressfield
Pressfield explains that procrastination allows us to put things off indefinitely without ever having to admit that we aren’t accomplishing our goals. It allows us to rationalize the fact that Resistance has convinced us not to actually do the work necessary to get where we want to go.
Procrastination traps us in our current lives, without ever acknowledging its own existence. It could be the most unsuspicious form of imprisonment.
The Resistance uses many different forms of procrastination to keep traders under its control. It will convince you that are better off waiting until next week to get started. It will argue that you should wait just one more day to honor the stop you set. It will remind you that you haven’t read the latest trading book yet.
For me, the Resistance uses procrastination in the form of beer. At the end of most of my days, sitting down with a beer is much more appealing than sitting down to run my stock screens and monitor my stops.
The Resistance has no problem suggesting that skipping my homework to have a drink (or six) will have a positive impact on my life. It did the same thing to me in college. It will find a way to do the same to you.
The only way to fight the Resistance in the form of procrastination is to force yourself to sit down and do the work. Otherwise, the Resistance will find a way to break you.
