“What’s particularly insidious about the rationalizations that Resistance presents to us is that a lot of them are true. They’re legitimate. Our wife may really be in her eighth month of pregnancy; she may in truth need us at home. Our department may really be instituting a changeover that will eat up hours of our time. Indeed it may make sense to put off finishing our dissertation, at least till after the baby’s born.”
- Steven Pressfield
I have quite a few friends that have fallen prey to this type of Resistance through rationalization. Some are just learning to be parents, some are struggling to keep up with the demands of their day jobs, some feel pressure to participate in what feels like a constant string of family events.
These are all good excuses. But that doesn’t change the fact that they are excuses. You are still choosing one thing over another.
In order to find success in trading, or any other field, you have to be willing to fully commit to whatever it is you want. Otherwise you’re just blowing smoke talking about your daydreams.
One helpful thing to keep in the back of your mind is that every other person who has already found the success you are chasing went through the exact same bullshit you are struggling with. It’s the price you have to pay to get where you want to go.
Are you willing to pay the price? Even when any sane person can rationally argue that your priorities should perhaps be elsewhere?
