“Friends sometimes ask, ‘Don’t you get lonely sitting by yourself all day?’ At first it seemed odd to hear myself answer No. Then I realized that I was not alone; I was in the book; I was with the characters. I was with my Self.”
- Steven Pressfield
Isolation is a big deal to Pressfield. Such a big deal that he spends two chapters in a row talking about it. I’m not sure if this is a common issue for all traders, but I can absolutely relate.
For as long as I can remember I have been a solo artist. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about trading or any other interest, I’ve always been more comfortable by myself. I stutter in public.
The thing is, much like Pressfield, when I’m working on something by myself, I never feel like I’m by myself. I’m with my work.
While I don’t have characters like Pressfield does, I have the next best thing. I have stocks. Each of them have their own personalities. I also have indicators, strategies, and historically great traders to study.
No matter how much time I spend working on my trading, I never feel alone while I’m working. I love it. It’s my passion.
